Common Uses
Claritine is a drug used to treat allergies, and marketed for its nonsedating properties. It relieves symptoms of seasonal allergies such as runny nose; sneezing; itchy, watery eyes; or itching of the nose and throat.
How to Take
For adult and child over 6 years: 10 mg daily. Child 2-5 years: 5 mg daily. Taken with or without food.
Warning and Precautions
The effects of Claritine during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Claritine appears in breast milk and could affect a nursing infant. If Claritine is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding until your treatment with Claritine is finished.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Overdose
Contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include fast or irregular heartbeat; severe drowsiness or headache.
Storage
Store Claritine at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Possible Side Effects
Drowsiness, headache, psychomotor impairment, and antimuscarinic effects such as urinary retention, dry mouth, blurred vision, and gastrointestinal disturbances are the most common side effects. Other rare side effects are: Hypotension, extrapyramidal effects, dizziness, confusion, depression, sleep disturbances, tremor, convulsions, palpitation, arrhythmias, hypersensitivity reactions, blood disorders, liver dysfunction, and angle-closure glaucoma.
